By Denise So of Grade 10 - Solomon The Bell Jar was Sylvia Plath’s first and only novel before her unfortunate demise. Written in true roman à clef fashion, it parallels Plath’s own experiences with her mental illness and her unhealthy obsession with death. In her semi-autobiographical novel, Plath uses black comedy and vivid imagery to effectively portray how the suffocating pressure to conform to societal norms can adversely affect the human psyche, and how receiving the proper kind of help can make a significant difference to those affected. She portrays this in a way allows the readers to understand and relate to these issues presented, despite how they initially seem foreign.

By Denise So Damien Chazelle, director of Academy Award winning movie Whiplash, has brought yet another phenomenal award-winning movie. With its song and dance numbers reminiscent of Old Hollywood glamour, La La Land brings viewers right into its thrilling world of young and hopeful artists. Though it may start off as a lighthearted romantic comedy, La La Land, starring favorite on screen couple Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, accurately and exceptionally portrays the real struggle that young artists face in an often harsh and unforgiving industry.

By Chloe Chan of Grade 12 - Hudson Taylor A grain sown on the ground
Within fields of green blades, Cracked open without sound, In lush meadows it fades. By: Kiahna Siy, 9-SYS Time flies over the world like water under a bridge. Dark clouds brimming overhead, covering up even the slightest ray of sunshine. The downpour outside is refusing to give up in the battle against the howling wind. The hats lifted from heads and the umbrellas were flying from the grasps of passersby.
By Denise Joaquin of Grade 12 - Dwight Moody Hope requires the fire that sets the heart aflame.
It reassures the restive soul, With every cadence a reminder that Tomorrow holds the chance to be resolved. By Jillian Raine D. Caliwan of Grade 12 - Martin Luther You chased your playmates around, just like how I'm chasing the deadline of this entry for the school newspaper, which you are reading right now: hurriedly and wearily. I throw tantrums like you did, not because I didn't get what I wanted, but because I'm just moody. You cried about simple things like the fact that Nemo went missing (shamelessly in the movie theater). Now, I'm crying because I just imagined myself crying. You played with colorful shapes. I do the same, except I only play with hearts. Just kidding. I am nearing a milestone in my life, and this letter is to let you know that however much will change, you will still continue existing.
